Yesterday i got my kodiak 450 stuck in a pretty deep mud puddle. It wasnt over the intake or the exhaust but the motor was completely coverd. When i finally got out it ran fine. But, i just wanted to know if there is anything i should check now? Are there any major things that can get messed up if they get coverd in water or is everything pretty much water proof(as long as the intake or exhaust dont get water in them)?

Also, i got an exhaust tip for it on ebay and i like the way it sounds, but it backfires every once in a wile. Is that ok or is it messing up the motor when it backfires? Would it be better if i put the spark arrestor on the ebay tip so it gets a little more bak pressure or should i just put the stock tip back on?

Also, My motor now has around 13hours on it... i changed the oil at around 7hours.... But that place where i baught it from told me to bring it in for a break in service and they were telling me that it looks good for when i have warrenty work done to it(because it shows that i take care of it i guess)...... Should i really take it in for break in service(they said its $150 or around $200 if the valves need adjusted)? Or is it ok if i do all of the maintenence myself?

Sorry about all of the questions.

I would start by checking all the oils and lubes for water, and regreasing everything.  its always a good idea to run a spark arrester if you ride in any wooded, grassey, flamable areas

What all should be lubed? and how do i check for water in the fluids?

I rode it for a wile again today and it seems to be running fine.... But i guess that doesnt really mean that everything has to be perfectly fine.

I had an 02 Griz and had to learn exactly what you are going through. I put that tip on too but I had to go into the carb and put the main needle jet up one notch. Be very careful when you do this because you can really screw things up. After I did that it purred like a Bear. You need to change your Differential fluid because the breather hose can easily get water in it. Lastly if you look into your rims from the outside you will see grease zerks. I use marine grease on these everytime after it goes swimming. Good luck and happy trails.

How hard is it to change diff fluid? or would it be easier to just take it to a shop and have them do it? and the thing is pretty much brand new... should the diff fluid need changed even it its only been in mud that deep 2 or 3 times?

It's real easy. Take the drain plug out of the bottom of the diff. It will probably be a metric allen wrench. Plug it back up and fill it with diff fluid through the top plug until it starts spilling out. If you are new to these machines I would highly recommend reading the whole owners manual cover to cover and get a shop manual from the dealer or one of our sponsors. You can save alot of cash doing it yourself and you have piece of mind knowing that everything is taken care of. I will never publicly bad mouth any dealers service departments.:puke:

Its not a bad idea to let the dealer do the first service. Then it is on record. After that you can do the routine maintenance easily enough if you have a manual
