I've been running the Iowa Harescramble series (IATVHSS.com) and have been running my gade 800x in stock form, but have already ding'd up the wheels and am about ready to give my ATRs away.  They are absolutely worthless on off-camber terrain when it is wet in any way shape or form.  What I'm planning on doing is keeping the ATRs on the stock wheels as "spares" and spending some coin on a new set of wheels and tires.  With that said, the list of options includes:
  1. I
  2. TP SS212 Wheels - Bighorn     25x8x12 fronts and 25x10x12 rears = $661.76
  3. I
  4. TP SS212 Wheels - Terracross 25x8x12 fronts and 25x10x12 rears - $759.60
  5. I
  6. TP SS212 Wheels - Dirt Tamer 25x8x12 fronts and 25x10x12 rears - $not sure yet, but cheaper than #1 and #2
Would like some opinions from people who have raced with the different tires mentioned.  I've heard good about the bighorns other than weight and have also heard good things about the terras.

I would like to go the lightest route possible with some decent durability.  Terras are EXPEN$IVE, but I really like the overall looks of them.

Are the BH 2.0s out yet? I can't seem to find them anywhere that I've looked. I'd like to see what the tread differences are between the original and the new version too.

I have heard many times (on this forum and others) that bighorns don't give good traction on off camber trails.  Some racers are using super lite super grip tires, very similar to the mudlites stating they are great on off camber racing and riding.

This is the first time I've heard of this, which is interesting ... especially since I was about ready to make my order.  I really would like to know more on this because we ride a ton of off camber stuff every race so far and I think that is where I lose the most time to others.

Are the terras a better tire for off-camber then?  I need to get a set ordered pronto so I have them in time to install and ride some.

The Bighorns are great on off cambers..... IF it's not snotty slick!
If it"s going to be slckie for ya', then I would go with the Terras.
bty, the BH 2's consist of "shorter and more narrow tread", this is why they are lighter than the BH 1'S-

It all depends on what type of surface you are on, slick rocks I think is what some have complained about. I ride mine everywhere rocks, sand, dirt, grass, and even some mud. I have not really ever had a complaint other than in mud, they will packup on ya if you don't keep the wheel speed up, in order to keep them cleened out.  The terra HDs might be better, now with heavier sidewalls, but in the past I had herd of some complaints about them getting flats and wearing faster then horns. So I have stuck with the my horns.

I have a set of 26" Terra's on my bike...super tires! Great in gravel, rocks and mud (to a point...) I have had no off camber issues either. the rears are 11" wide, great for riding off camber, but they will throw some mud on you, even with the fender extensions...

I ride with a bunch of guys who have Bighorns, these are some really good tires as well, tough as nails for sure. I'd say either choice would be great, but I have no seat of the pants experience with the Big Hornies...

J. Dudding quit the bighorns because of sliding on camber, can't remember what he went to though.  He did recommend another tire not on your list.  You could probably find what he runs on a search.

The Terracross tires will not slip on camber.  They are softer is the reason why, plus the tread design.  They also wear faster cause they're softer.  No free lunch, not that either tire is free by a long way.

Bighorn 2 has just come out, to compete with softer tires imo.

Terracross HD has just come out, to compete with harder tires imo.

I have 1900 miles on the soft Terracross, no flats or problems, still plenty of tread left, mostly on rocky trails.  If they last three or four thousand miles, I'll be getting that same tire again, won't even consider the Terracross HD or the Bighorns, cause the original Terracross tires will keep my quad going where I point it.  They even hook up good, within reason, on lake ice.
