They are suprising in mud, not 20" deep but they are pretty good up to about a foot. They are a very good all around tire unless you are a serious mudder.

nobody posts about snow with these bhrs( i got 26's). I just tried that a couple times.Out of 10, i'd say a 7.My last bike(griz) had 26" bear claws. Not much difference in snow. We were out in kinda fluffy stuff and the bhr's were really good(8.5/10), then today ,wet sticky ,+2 deg c,8-9"+,...not great, probably 5.5/10.But in their defence, the bearclawed rancher following me did way worse. The sticky snow(grab a handfull and it's an instant ,hard snowball),is a good tire tester.Factory tires always seem 2 be better in snow (8-9 out of 10), but the best ive seen yet in all my years are the ACT's i took off my 800. They were easily 10/10 and really amazed me in snow, and they were good in everything else too, but in snow, damn ! But ,like everything theres a downside- flimsy sidewalls=flat tires=angry kraked, but damn!

Thanks for posting that. I never really had a chance to try my BHR's in deep snow. Don't want to argue but I personally think my XTR's are a lot better in the snow than the ACTs...just my :cents:

I've had a set of 25" Bighorns on my Bomb 800 since February and put about 1700 miles on them, mostly on trails and dessert riding.  They've been great and show little wear.  Perhaps I should drop the pressure to 3 psi before I complain, but I feel the ACTs did a lot better in loose sand.

I have to agree with Kraked and Oguy.  In snow & deep, loose sand, my stock Ohtsus generally perform better than the BHs.  In brutal rocky terrain, wet or dry, the BHs are in their element.  Sidewall protection and resilience are excellent and they wear extremely well.  After last year's snow season which in Canada can easily last 6 months, I've decided to get cheapy rims for the Ohtsus and run them during the winter instead of the Bighorns.  From what I've seen, the ACTs perform very well in just about everything, but their durability during the summer months in the Rocky Mountain ruff stuff is somewhat lacking IMO, much like the Mudlites.  Other than that, I'd slap either of these brands onto my Outie in a minute for a good year-round tire.  The BHs are just too darned great in the sharp pointy tire-shredding environment that I put them through on a regular basis in the summer, that I simply can't part with them just yet.  If I can ever find a tire with the functionality of the ACT or Mudlite AND the toughness and traction on slick muck and rocks of the BH, I think I'll have found my tire Shangri-la.

so are 25's the way to go on a outlander for trips to the mountains for trail riding?  I already have 28" mst for the woods and snow/water.

thanks!

I bought my Bighorn...after I read a lot of review, spoke with maxxis company and made my chance to bought a set.....Summer Trail riding, rock, loose soil, very impressive......and ride quality....sssssoooooo smooth......( compare to stock ACT ) radial of course !!!

this is my first set and not dissapointed for summer riding.....Where I'm dissapointed is for winter use.........VERY BAD......ok.  Fresh snow, wet or floffy they perfom well but not that much...

After my test .....I switch for my OEM ACT....I did some groomed trail ridding and perform a LOT BETTER in corner.....way to much sliding on hard pack winter ground ( pack snow and ice ground ). So I decide to keep my ACT as a Snow tire and put some car nails on it...:aniwh:

I don't recall what my original tread depth was, but I've now got about 3500 miles on my Bighorns and I still have a little over a half inch tread depth on them.  I've got a couple of plugs in them, and probably have hundreds of cactus thorns punctured through, but when I top off the air they are good for another week of hard riding.  For longevity, they seem to be great.

For those that are concerned with top speed with the 25" tires, my GPS has recorded rides that reached 76 mph.  Mike Penland recommended these tires for me for the 2006 San Felipe 250 race, and Ive never regreted buying them.

you could always try rotating the tires so that the "white" bighorn logo is pointed inwards on the bike.  I believe the white rubber is only on one side of the tire.  you won;t see the nive white bighorn letters, ut you won;t see the flaking either.
