you can run up to 29.5" high tires without a lift.....14" wheels? No problem as long as you have 14" tires Clutch kit? I would say with 28" or taller tires a kit would be a great benefit

Should be a sweet combo. No clutch kit needed

Killer loop and others, this is my first post and I wanted to let everyone know that I really love this website. Now back to the subject. I have been researching the effects the 14s with bigger tires would have on the low-end performance effects the upgrade would have. The bottomline here is what kind of riding you do. I just bought the ITP SS106 w/terracrosser package in 12". I was going to get the 14s but I do a lot of technical/fast trail riding which in my case need the sidewall on the tire to climb but still have the stirdiness of the radial for fast switchback riding. In other words I get the best of both worlds.

Now then here are the advantages/disadvantages of the 14" wheel package with the terracrossers.

1. ADV: Lower profile tire/higher GC/great looks= Awesome handling. DISADV: Less ability to climb technical hard climbs and deep mudding/risk of sidewall puntures/rotational mass and weight

Note: The wheels are heavier and the Terracrossers in the 12" are 22.5 lbs/front and 27 lbs/Rear. The stock Carliles are 17 lbs/front and 24 lbs/rear. That is 17 lbs of wieght and add about 5 more lbs for the rims at least for the 14s. The Terracrosser radial is pretty light compared to the ITP XTR or the Bighorn.

What this all means, is you are going to lose some low end grunt. Again the Dalton clutch will fix all that since it is adjustable. For me I bought the clutch anyway because I want more performance down low and to the mid level powerband. It all depends on what you want to do.

Happy hunting

I'll give you guys a seat of the pants report on 14" SS106's mounted on 26" Terracross radials...they have been hauling my big butt around for approx. 1100 miles so far...

The Terra's are some really good trail tires...They do a super job in tight, rough, rocky stuff, and I have gone through mud that stopped guys with Mudlites and Bighorns...

I have only had one flat so far...a sidewall pinch from riding in rocks too fast..it was my fault...

The only drawback to this tire/wheel combo is it does give a rougher ride and it is 99% due to the fact that you have a larger aluminum wheel and a narrower sidewall, there just isn't any flex in the sidewall at all because it's only about 3" tall at best...you can definately tell a difference...

It does look really good...rides rough...oh and the rear 11" wide tires hang out from under even the BRP fender extensions...be ready to get a mud shower on wet trails...

I am currently saving my nickles for a new set of 25" Big Hornies and 12" black wheels...I'll save the Terra's for riding in the Christmas parade...

The 14" Wheels are exactly what I thought they would be. I run 27"XTR's in winter and the 26" Terracross in summer. I have tried plenty of wheel/tire combos, and for my fast trail riding style, I couldn't be happier.

2 words: PINCH FLATS!!  I'll stick with the 12 inchers.  Once you flatten a tire with a pinched sidewall you throw it away and buy a new one.  Very hard to fix properly and I wouldn't trust the fix no way no how!  Sorry guys I just don't like 14s, unless you're buying 29.5" or larger tire.

What the two Outlanderish guys said!
I have a set of 27 x 14" XTR's on Type 7 Alum. rims.
Yep, they give you the ol' mud shower, steer MUCH harder but pull great. I use them if I'm going to be riding mud, planned of course!
I like the 25" Horns, either on OE rims or not for 90% of trail riding.... The Terras are good also. No clutch mods needed with these sizes of tires.

Put it this way........I keep my stock XT Wheels and tires for exploring back country and breaking new ground. I am the first to admit that the 14's are more work (Steering/Bumps/Rock Scratches), but, they have their purpose. I have flipped once or fifteen times, and for any fire road/ trails that call for 27mph or more for awhile, the ITP Terracross w/SS 14" 8r & 6f wheels are the reason I am here to post this. I like fast, and bigfoot monster truck is not for me. I like to corner at more than 10mph without getting tossed in the weeds. Lifts/ Ground Clearance wars/ Soggy-Flat Huge tires have their place in the ATV world....just not in mine. I have an old Jeep w/ super swampers that I take out to see how far, or deep I can go. My Outty is for (all trails) at faster speeds than anyone else.
