I bought some Hoppe's #9 solvant to clean my shotgun. Is it safe to use on my Stainless Steel .22 also? The directions only warn not to soak nickel in it...I think it would be ok but I have heard stories that some solvants will etch stainless.

#9 Should be good.

Sweet's works too (for copper fouling)but you can't leave it in there very long.

I use wd-40 for the first few wipes to get the bulk of the loose stuff out.

Another tip is use ronson's lighter fluid for lubricating the action, it leaves a very fine lubricant behind after it evaporates.

Bleach is definetly bad for stainless. :2cent:
