First let me state that depending on where you are coming from access to this OHV riding area is a slow and winding one lane road around half of Lake Berryessa with about 8-10 shallow creek crossings, the road is paved but if you are coming from the south just be prepared for a drive.   It took 1:45 from Davis CA which is where we met.  Access from the north is much easier and shorter,  approx. 25 minutes south of Lower Lake on Morgan Valley rd, it turns into Knoxville road.  The riding area is not marked, the only clue was a "welcome to Knoxville recreation area sign" with a very small OHV funds at work sticker on it.   The only developed staging area was about a mile or more down a winding dirt road with a vaulted bathroom and two covered picnic tables, we actually found this later in the day as we were riding so we ended up parked on the side of the dirt road.  This is the most undeveloped riding area I've been to, there are no marked roads or trails, this area has mostly only been open to hunting/fishing/camping, opening up to OHV use has been fairly recent I've been told and you could tell.

For starters, it tool MUCH longer to get here then we expected then my buddy had problems with his YFZ as it wouldn't start, after about an hour of messing with it he decided to return home while my other buddy an I rode, we didn't even get started until almost 12:30ish so we had to kind of limit our options.  We stuck mostly to the two main dirt roads but did venture off on a pretty nice trail that ran along this creek for quite a while, it was fairly narrow and in some spots very, very rocky, sharp rocks too, some very sharp turns and a few shallow creek crossings.  Almost every road or trail we rode on eventually ended or was gated off, there are other trails that loop around but the map we had was very poor and nothing was marked anyway.

The vegetation is mostly manzanita, thin pines, scrub brush etc.  The weather here is typical No. Calif. dry June-Sept, probably pretty hot and dusty too.  We did notice a LOT of areas frequented by trap shooters and other firearms as well, shooting areas are marked on a map but there are no signs indicating where is and isn't OK to shoot.

Overall the riding was OK, nothing spectacular and considering it's location I may or may not return here, it's a further drive for my friends to meet me there.  This are is probably best for someone who wants to camp for a few days and bring along a GPS to mark their locations, there looked to be MANY, MANY more miles of trails/roads to ride we simply didn't have the time.  You could bring along som ething to mark the trails with, neon orange spray paint on some rocks or something just to be on the safe side, not sure how  BLM feels about that.
