Some have been wondering, so here it is.  This is the way I did my engine air intake.  I'm not a deep mud guy, just don't like the fenderwell splash and don't want my CVT snorkle under my pod pulling air from a stealth airbox snorkle.  The benefits I have seen are less dust in the box and no water in the box.  (At least you shouldn't since you can see if water is going in.

This first pic is of the finished product.  Placement of the hole in the plastic was an "eyeball" placement for me.  I had the runner cut and with the plastic on, measured back from the handlebars to see where I wanted it.  Then with the plastic off, I set the runner on the airbox, eyeballed for center and marked the bolt holes.  The airhole was done  with a die grinder from the inside but I had made a template for the hole using the factory hole.  I then used that template to make the factory hole blockoff plate.  (siliconed of course)

The second pic is of the lid showing the original runner cut and bolted to the lid.  You have to "port match" the opening to the lid and silicone the mating surfaces as they won't conform to each other perfectly.

The third pic is just a different angle of the cut I made on the runner.

*XT owners will have to trim the base of the handguard plastic on the bottom side facing the driver.  It will rub the intake when turning.  I don't have that pictured because I've got the windshield on right now.

Looks good hayseed... Thats exactly what I wanted to do with the airbox..something relatively simple but to the point. Thanks for taking the time to share that one with us. gonna go out and take a look at mine and think about starting in on that one today!

Now that's thinking outside the box. Great job, you should sale this idea to Can Am.

One thing I didn't mention before is that I have experimented with another airbox lid by cutting the raised area in the top completely out, blocking off the factory hole and using prefilter material on the top.  The reason I didn't stay with that is because I felt like I was getting dustier air because there's always alot of dust/dirt under the console plastic when I remove it.  The water splash benefit was the same though.  I believe EHS racing sells a lid with the prefilter material on it.

what about doing both? Put/slide some type of prefilter in the scoop itself or maybe make a slotted area on the aifilter side of it. This way, you could slide a cleanable filter in there to catch the big stuff and decrease the cleaning needs on the main filter. Many possibilities here. I just like the simplicity of this idea.. no need to go any larger as far as the opening is concerned.. as long as its roughly bigger than the throttle body opening its all good. Folks that were putting three snorkels coming out of the front of the quad seems like overkill.. any performance benefits to two snorks rather than one large one? Not that I'll be doing those type of snorks....

The three snorks would be CVT intake, CVT exhaust and engine air intake.

Has anyone done this on a Renegade? I thought about something like this but I was not sure if it would fit under the cowling.

*edited - Nevermind, I just noticed that the cowling was cut out to fit it in. Not too interested in chopping up the plastics.
