hey guys new guy on the block here, bought my first 4wd atv in 06, did some reading on them with all the hype about the new outtie800 i decided to buy one.

in any case the machine wasnt worth the $$$ in my eyes, broken shock springs, bent frame, melting plastic, brakes that dont stop etc etc etc.

so its away with can am-brp and ive decided to go to arcticat.

my friends all have them and i shoulda known after watching the beatings they take vs my bomb,in any case orderd a tcat 1000 i guess there is alot of hype with this one as well but it seems that cats are very reliable machines so ive heard and seen.

time will tell but im glad to get one they seem very well built compaired to brp.

nothing personal but brp needs to learn how to deal with customers as well.

You purchased a first year outlander 800 and know a first year Arctic Cat 1000. I hate to tell you that they all have issues so expect the same from the arctic cat.

I like Cats, they are nice quads for what they are built for but dont be surprised when they have issues also. I got rid of my 2005 after a 2 years because i was sick of fixing it.

i understand that they all have problems but this one i think was built on a friday late afternoon, it seems as though every time i ride it, its always somthing breaking or check eng lite, last week i was riding along and heard a loud snap, i stopped and shut it down looking around and what do i see the front coil spring broke, called the dealer told them and they said its customer pay,i said wtf this thing is going for sale, i could see if i beat the thing but i dont.

in any case i expect the cat to have some bugs as well, i just hope its more reliable than my outtie, thats all.

You definetely got a day after holiday model! I have over 1000 miles on mine and not any mechanical problems at all. The "problems" i have had with it is fogging display, and lost belt strap for battery, the plastic shield broke by the gas tank. Nothing major and five minute fixes besides display. I just live with that.

Good luck!

Which spring broke?  How much to replace it, parts and labor?

Would you give us your dealer's name, sounds like it would help to alert the other Outy owners in the Quebec area that he won't fix defective Outy parts on warranty.

I have an 06 first year production 800 and have really had no issues that weren't rider related. I upgraded my front shocks, not out of necessity(well sort of) and the crappy battery strap but it's never left me stranded or unable to ride wherever and whenever I felt like it. I certainely don't baby it but I don't think I abuse it, I believe I pretty much have ridden it to it's limits on more then one occasion and it held up perfectly fine.

There is pro's and con's to them all. Not only in there designs, but there are some that are just lemons, and all manufactures have them pop up from time to time.

I still believe proper maintainence and usage are the #1 factor in any brands performance and reliability. Some brands seem to be a little more trouble free but overall I think the quality level is pretty close amongst all the major manufacturers.

I did have an axle pop out of my diff with my lift on. When you lift a cat as high as mine with stock axles you either need to put spacers in between the hub and axle in the front or put on gorrillas. I couldn't wait for my spacers and went without and popped an axle out of the diff. Got my spacers in yesterday and am good to go now!

I checked on trading my 06' non xt for an 08' just like it today, my 06' booked out at 4700.00 I would bet an XT would book a few hundred higher at around 5k, keep in mind thats trade in. Its pretty common to get an extra grand or so selling them yourself.

I wasent planning on selling my outty as soon as i did but i got a good offer and i took it. Sold mine for $10 000 canadian. It went with 2 sets of rims and tires, hmf pipe, hmf fuel optimizer, snorkaled, rear shocks in the front, skid plate and a few other extras. With price of the qaud and extras was over $17,000 canadian. A new outty with taxes up hear is around $13,000 or more. I talked about trading it off and they didnt want to give me near enough for it. You get ripped off badly trading next to new quads off. My buddy that i sold it too is having clutch problems right now(2200kms). He has it torn apart right now. He doesnt take very good care of his stuff and begs the :pod: out of it.

Has there been any axles broken? I haven't had time to drop by Steel Horses lately and I haven't been able to keep up with all the news.:pu:

There are plenty of people running Ape Axles on theirs.

If I needed some HD ones they would be the ones I chose.

When i said "Every quad has issues. So far my tcat has been bullet proof! With the lift and 29.5s i would be surprised if i blow an axle. I have to save up for some gorrilas!" I meant to say wouldn't be surprised! I just caught that. And yes i did do very godo selling my outty. It was in very good shape when i sold it but it sure isnt anymore. Kinda sucks seeing somthing you took care of go to :pod:. I did wheelie it alot and i know he does to and maybe that is why the primary clutch seems to wear out quick. I did $500 dollars worth of work to the primary clutch and by the sounds of it sounds like its pretty loose again. When i got the clutch rebuilt last time it was just starting to get some play and extra noise's(about 1600 kms) THe owner of my old quad raced a renegade 800 the other day and said he beat it even with his 26 inch mud bugs on. I raced my old outty about 2 months ago and beat it but it was closer then the other outties i raced. Fastford's renegade was my closest competition so far. That thing goes pretty good.
