ATVs Recalled By KYMCO Due to Suspension Failure; Riders Can Lose Control of Vehicle

The following product safety recall was voluntarily conducted by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: 2006-2008 Model Year MXU 500 All Terrain Vehicles

Units: 1,350

Importer: KYMCO USA, of Spartanburg, S.C.

Hazard: The pivot bolts holding the rear suspension onto the frame can become loose, causing the rear swing arm to detach from the chassis posing a risk of injury or death to the operator.

Incidents/Injuries: KYMCO has received six reports of incidents, including two reports of minor injuries.

Description: This recall involves all model year 2006-2008 MXU 500 ATVs. The vehicle is identified by a label on the front as KYMCO and the model is determined by a label located on each side of the fuel tank as MXU 500.

Sold by: KYMCO dealers nationwide from November 2006 through December 2007 for between $6,000 and $6,500.

Manufactured in: Taiwan

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled ATVs and contact an authorized KYMCO dealer in their area to schedule a free repair. Registered owners were sent direct mail notification of this recall.

Consumer Contact: For additional information, consumers can contact KYMCO USA at (888) 235-3417 anytime or visit the firm’s Web site at http://www.kymcousa.com

I had a lengthy reply going the other day but I scrapped it so I'll try to highlight.

If you're here, good chance this isn't the only site you read so it's easy to assume everyone knows about these things.

My last ride included 9 people. I'm fairly competent to say I was the only one who has ever been on an atv website.

If 25% of atv riders read atv forums I'd be surprised.

Point being is you never know who might show up looking for answers. :)

My points really have nothing to do with Kymco. IMO there are tons of riders out there that don't do any research.

Hell, I started out just looking for people to ride with, where to go, never even thought about maintenance tips, possible issues, etc.

I agree with you TR2. Hey that rhymes! But I think your 25% esimate is high.I have given lots of people advice I have learned of this site and when I say I got it off the internet they just roll there eyes!LOL if they only knew. Too bad their loss. It pays to be informed.

I ride with the same 6-8 people every weekend, none of which are computer literate. Its funny how they act like I have a crystal ball or something when I can find anything cheaper than they can at the very few shops within a 30 minute drive, and find new places to ride.
I am on a first name basis with the UPS driver due to knowing how to use google.
