Well here in about 12 days from now, around midnight the 24th of this month the press embargos will be lifted, and the info will hit the net as to what is really going on. Only thing I have seen for certan is that they do have pretty much all there current powertrains emmisions certified for 2009 in California on CARB. So to me that seems to indicate that at least most of the line line will continue in the 09 model year, I do expect there to be a couple new models added, one likely to be an 850 or 1000 as some have mentioned. I leaning more in toward the 850 as being the most plausable.

What is the difference in the 2008/2009 800's?? I see for 2009 they are calling it an "HO" engine.Cam change?? Displacement is still listed as 760cc.

Sportsman 800 HOs were actaully out as 08s. Its just used in the standard lenght sportsmans. The HO is said to be worth about 10% in increased power over the other 800s . I am told there are some difference in the heads and cams, but I am not 100% on exactly what was done. All the other 800s are unchanged from 07-08.

The 09 info is not available until the 24th of July, so untill then its all speculation and rummor as to what will be changed for 09.

I can't wait to see the 09 stock against stock drags. Who will be #1 is just intriguing me. Looks like it could be Polaris which would make things very interesting, nice shocker for the 800R.

I think stock for stock, they have targeted each other, for a three way tie. The Quad article stated this new 850 polaris is a V-twin. I am a little skeptical on that, sinse the rumors were saying it was a 850 parralel, twin.

I was thinking the same thing cc. Wow, I just didn't want to say it. If you look at the hp specs plus weight of each machine, the three of them come really close and the winner may be decided by who got the better start.

:exac,  I think that is exactly what is going to happen here with these, then it might be a couple years before someone meaning the MFGs gets desperate and breaks rank and brings out another big gun to out do all the others, then the war will be back on. I think we are looking at three super powers now all going to set pat till someone else makes a move. These are really the only three mfgs that take chances and push the envelope, the other mfg's, are typically to chicken to get into this sorta  power game with quads anyway. They might build and sell ya 200mph street bike though. LOL

I was thinking the same thing again. This just made a dead lock and it maybe 3 or 4 years before anything else happens. I also agree with you about the other guys, they're not gonna get in this. I have to say though this motor from polaris sounds impressive. That many horses out of an 850 (which technically could be less than that like AC 1000 which is a 952) is pumping out juice like the rotax. This further proves that cat's 950 should be pumping out 80hp. The polaris's 850 is more comparable to can am (08 version) being probably a 40cc spread and 8 more horses. That sounds about right. The cat is 150cc spread with 4 more horses. :frown   If AC was gonna defang it like that, why not just make an 850 and pump the juice out of it like Polaris did? Marketing hype?

If Honda were to bring out an 800, you know they might actaully be able to hang with the competions 500 class machines.:tg:

Never fear, there are a lot of Honda diehards out there, I didn't even have to advertise my 08 Rincon and sold it, in passing more or less, i had not actually even planned to sell it. But thought what the heck, I was not really impressed with it, other than it was a good looking machine, but I figured it was likely the next one to go, if I ran accross something else I wanted to try. So I shot the guy a price, he came and picked it up a couple days later. They don't get much easier than that to sell.

I thinking about selling it and getting me a 800R in black (sorry cc, I like it too). I want to pipe the outty and use it in trailing and have fun putting my hard earned money into my TCat to make it a dragger. One bike for fun and one bike for pure power (of course not stock because the 800 will probably whoop it stock but modded I think I can pump 100 horses out of it).

It seems we are thinking alike my friend. I think its the best bet for finding a good use for my Cat as well, I like it ok, but I tend to dread taking it someplace to ride it all day, it just tends to wear me out. Where I can ride my Outy hours on end, and still feel pretty decent after long hard ride.

I think this Polaris may be alot like the Outy in that respect, except that narrower seat deal I read about has casued me some concern about the new Popos. The Cat has a narrower seat than my Outy and X2, and thats plus its a stiffer seat, that seems to be what I don't like about riding the cat on all day rides. I have faith that Polaris has tryed to keep this new sportsmans comfort level in tact, but I will need to ride one to be sure.

The one major thing this new popo won't have, is the TTI rear suspension, that is the key to Outy's superior handeling abilty in the IRS class machines.

I heard that the one downside to the TTI is tippy feeling on hard turns because of the strict vertical motion and no slanting. Is that true? If not, then I can't see any downside to the outty handling. It seems near perfect.
